GLASSWARE NUCLEATION

Attention to Detail

What is nucleation and why is it used?

Nucleation refers to deliberately created microscopic imperfections or etched patterns in the base of a beer glass that encourage the release of carbon dioxide from a carbonated drink, forming a steady stream of bubbles.

This can be achieved through printed abrasion techniques or laser etching. Festival Glass, use laser nucleation, we various nucleation machines positioned at the end of multiple production lines in the factory.

Nucleation is an optional add-on product, typically specified at the point of enquiry and subject to additional cost. It is most commonly applied to glassware designed for lager or carbonated keg products, where it helps promote a steady stream of bubbles and maintain a foamy head on the beer.

Standard nucleation

Grid Nucleation

Our standard grid nucleation is a popular, proven pattern suitable for a wide range of products. It is the most popular option for customers seeking a versatile, general-purpose nucleation design that performs effectively across a variety of carbonated beverages.

Bespoke designs

Bespoke Nucleation

We offer a multifunctional bespoke nucleation service across a variety of glassware. This is achieved by laser etching your own bespoke design into the base of the glass, increasing the effervescence volume and life of the beverage. The minimum order for this option is slightly higher than our standard grid design.

*Please note it is recommended to first sample and test the performance and effectiveness of bespoke nucleation designs. Due to the wide range of varying factors (i.e. dispense environment and set-up, temperature and condition of glass, temperature of product, carbonation levels, etc.) it is impossible to know how nucleation will perform in different environments.
